Montblanc – Official Timing Partner of the Goodwood Festival of Speed
Montblanc celebrates its second year as The Official Timing Partner of The Goodwood Festival of Speed and seizes this great opportunity to celebrate the spirit of racing with the new TimeWalker Limited Edition that has been inspired by Minerva’s rich 160-year history
Goodwood, one of the grandest motor racing occasions
From July 12th to 15th, the impressive sporting estate of Goodwood will be transformed into the Festival of Speed, one of the greatest festivals of car culture in the world today and an important fixture on the British social calendar. Motor racing enthusiasts will be entertained by some of the world’s most accomplished racing drivers behind the wheels of some of today’s rarest and most spectacular machinery.
Founded 25 years ago in June 1993, The Goodwood Festival of Speed celebrates its Silver Jubilee this year with a presentation of its founder’s — the Duke of Richmond (formerly Lord March) — 25 most memorable moments through an exhibition of cars and the drivers who created them.
As Official Timing Partner for the second year running, Montblanc will lend its timekeeping expertise to the numerous races that take place over the four-day event. As is customary each year, the festival will culminate in a spectacular 1.16-mile timed Hillclimb Shootout, which will determine the champion of the 2018 Festival of Speed and the winner of a Montblanc timepiece — The Montblanc TimeWalker Manufacture Chronograph “Cappuccino” edition.
During the event, Montblanc will host a special Pavilion where guests can come and relax and discover the Montblanc collections. The Duke of Richmond will also be joining Montblanc and its guests for a special preview of the collection and a sneak peek at the winner’s timepiece.
Montblanc & Goodwood
“There are only a few motor racing celebrations as thrilling and exciting as Goodwood Festival of Speed. With the participation of magnificent cars that range from the vintage to the most avant-garde, this event is the perfect partnership for Montblanc, a Maison that celebrates its spirit of innovation and its long watchmaking heritage,” shares Montblanc CEO Nicolas Baretzki.
Davide Cerrato, Montblanc’s Managing Director Watch Division adds: “Montblanc timepieces celebrate the unrelenting passion for speed that has been at the heart of motor racing for the past century. For the past 25 years, the spirit of racing has found its home at Goodwood, an event that brings together those who share this passion for speed from all corners of the world. I can’t think of a better venue.”
Paying tribute to the Minerva legacy, Montblanc continues 160 years of fine watchmaking heritage with its collections. The Minerva Manufacture was known as an exclusive workshop producing high-quality instruments for measuring brief intervals of time with remarkable precision — for example, the 1/100th of second counter that was presented in 1916. A perfect example of this heritage is the “Rally Timer”, a stopwatch that was created to time motor racing with utmost precision and which has been the source of inspiration for the TimeWalker collection.
During the Goodwood event, and in a few selected boutiques, Montblanc will present two new limited edition models that have been inspired by the colour of the tropical dial effect – a Manufacture Chronograph and an Automatic Date. The dials are beige with brown counters and brown flanges and have been fondly nicknamed the “Cappuccinos” thanks to their warm and harmonious colour scheme.
