MEN IN BLACK AGENTS
GET BESPOKE TAILORING FROM PAUL SMITH
Paul Smith is delighted to announce his involvement in Sony Pictures’ upcoming instalment of the Men in Black™ franchise, developing bespoke tailoring designs for the film’s principle characters and the wider cast of Men in Black secret agents.
In collaboration with Costume Designer Penny Rose, Paul Smith supplies the universe’s most formidable alien-policing organization with tailoring to suit their intergalactic work. Together, Paul and Penny designed custom pieces for five of the agency’s most illustrious men and women in black, as well as outfitting the wider cast of crime-fighters.
Previous instalments of the world-famous film franchise have cemented the Men in Black’s suits amongst the most iconic tailored garments in the stratosphere. Enlisting the help of Paul Smith–famed for tailoring for both men and women–seemed a natural step. For the new instalment of the film’s franchise, the Men in Black are elegantly attired with a nod to fashion, better tailored than ever before.
Together, Penny and Paul have designed tailoring for Agents H and M. Agent H challenges the constrictions of the Men in Black uniform with a colorful lining (a known feature of Paul Smith tailoring) and a pair of Paul Smith signature stripe socks that give an irreverent finish. Agent M wears a two-button double breasted trouser suit. Both suits are made in Paul Smith’s A Suit To Travel In cloth, an all-wool cloth that has natural crease resistance, making the tailoring perfectly suited to keep the agents looking flawless whilst travelling through space and time.
Additionally, Agent O makes a return to the iconic film franchise wearing one-off Paul Smith designs alongside two other agents who also wear Paul Smith suits, a three-piece and two-piece respectively.
Paul Smith explains: “As a designer famous for his tailoring what could be better than receiving a call to say we’d love to use Paul Smith suits in Men in Black™? Simple suits but it’s all about the cut!”
Penny Rose, Costumer Designer explains: “I’d already begun developing and researching the costume design for Sony Pictures’ new instalment of the Men in Black™ franchise when I was asked if would partner with Paul Smith. From the moment I met with Paul I knew it was going to be a very advantageous arrangement for us all. The suits look great and now that filming is over, I look back with great affection on this collaboration. This will be the most sartorially elegant Men in Black™ ever.”
The untitled Men in Black™ spinoff is directed by F. Gary Gray from a screenplay by Art Marcum & Matt Holloway based on the Malibu Comic by Lowell Cunningham.
Paul Smith is also working on a new Men in Black™ inspired retail collection to launch in time for the film release.
